This fund typically allocates a minimum of 80% of its total assets to municipal bonds and other debt instruments, which generate income that is exempt from federal income tax, including the federal Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). The portfolio's primary focus is on municipal debt securities that hold an investment-grade rating from at least one major credit agency at the time of purchase. Nonetheless, the fund retains the flexibility to dedicate up to 30% of its net assets to municipal obligations considered below investment grade, often referred to as "high yield" or "junk" bonds.
